MAKING DANCE
As artists, Allen and I live in a beautiful place of open investigation. We are teachers and students, choreographers and performers, all in one breath. The intimacy we have with our own process is shared by our dancers who work with us.
Our history has been impacted by T.I.D.E., Anne Bogart, Paula Ravitz, and many other inspiring artists, local and abroad. Allen and I have developed our artistic passion through Choreographed Performances, Improvisation and Contact Dance, as a continual source of physical training, a base toward refined stage and film work, choreographic vitality, meditation, inspiration for our education programs and total delight.
Our foray into dance on film has become a feast to fulfill our evolving artistic vision. The eye of the camera brings us that much closer to highlighting exact moments in time. Every detail that we shoot in its specific environment allows our appetite for movement and cinematographic imagery to become incredibly alive. For me, performing for the camera lends me the comfort and connection of one on one intimacy, while at the same time the exuberance of reaching so many viewers. For Allen, he commands his vision so clearly by guiding the viewer through a world that speaks volumes of the human condition.
With a personal vision at the forefront, we continue to trust our first impulse as well as that of our dancers. Our movement invention is a distinct blend of inspiration between the dancers and the choreographer. Whether we are creating or performing for stage or camera, investigation deepens each day. With the desire to open our eyes just that little bit wider, while we are in the studio and when we are teaching, we strive to reach a visceral core of impact within ourselves, our audiences and our students.
