Piotr Biernat
Piotr R. Biernat is a dancer in Torontos contemporary dance
scene. Originally from Poland, Biernat moved to Canada in 1996 after
completing his Master of Fine Arts in acting at the National Theatre
School in Poland. He began his dance training with Anna Wyman School
in Vancouver, and continued with Main Dance Studio and the School
of Toronto Dance Theatre. Biernat has performed in works by Karen
Kaeja, Kathleen Rea, CORPUS, and the Chimera Project, as well as in
the benefits for Fashion Cares and World Stage in Toronto. The Globe
and Mails 2002 review of dance in Canada named Biernat "one
to watch
shining in contemporary dance
(he) dominates space
with a forceful presence." Biernat enjoys exploring theatre in
many forms as an actor, dancer, singer and writer. He has most recently
been seen as a guest artist in Halifax, performing with Mocean Dance
in their Season Premiere, Quintecentric, and as the Nutcracker Prince
in the Symphony Nova Scotia/Halifax Dance/Mermaid Theatre production
of The Nutcracker. Piotr also dances with the main Company of Kaeja
d'Dance.
Susanne Chui
Susanne Chui started dancing in her hometown, Lower Sackville, Nova
Scotia. After completing her professional training at the School
of Toronto Dance Theatre in 2002 she joined Tilt: sound + motion.
Independently Susanne has enjoyed working with many choreographers
including Bill James, Nancy Latham, Yvonne Ng and Lincoln Shand.
Maintaining a connection to Halifax, Susanne is a guest dancer with
company Verve Mwendo. She has also worked as an assistant teacher
for the School of Toronto Dance Theatres Young Dancers Program
and alongside Peggy Baker as a class demonstrator at the National
Ballet School of Canada. Kate Franklin
Kate Franklin graduated from the Quinte Ballet School in Belleville
in 1999. She continued her training at the Mentor Programme at Ballet
British Columbia. As a dancer, she has worked for Toronto Dance
Theatre as an Intern Dancer, Rebecca Kelly Ballet of New York City
as an Apprentice, and independent choreographers Wen Wei Wang, Meagan
O'Shea, Lisa Lurie, Tina Fushell, Nancy Latham, Andrya Duff and
Samm Higgison. This season she worked with choreographer Matjash
Mrozewski on "Break Open Play", co-produced by the National
Arts Centre and the Canada Council for the Arts. She is the co-founder
of Ambitious Enterprises, producing the creation of collaborative
works by emerging choreographers and artists of all disciplines.
Ambitious Enterprises is the producer of the "At the Wrecking
Ball" Series in Toronto. Kate's own choreography has been shown
at Grooveform's "MishMash", "At the Wrecking Ball
I and II" and in progress at Series 8:08. Kate is the program
assistant for Series 8:08's Alternative Technique Class Program. Jennifer Helland
A scholarship graduate of the School of Toronto Dance Theatre, Jennifer
has worked with many established choreographers including David
Earle, D.A. Hoskins, Sharon Moore, Massimo Agostinelli and Eryn
Dace Trudell. She has had the pleasure of performing both modern
dance and children's theatre throughout North America and Europe.
Jennifer is currently studying to become a certified Ashtanga yoga
instructor. She is in her second season with Kd'D2. Barbara Lindenberg
In 1997, Barb traveled from Victoria to Toronto to study dance at
York University. Work since and concurrent with her time at York
has included performance for the stage and camera, choreography
for theatre and an apprenticeship with Peter Chin during the process
of creating Bridge. She creates her own choreography and is in her
second season with KdD2. Christa Lochead
A native of Chilliwack BC, Christa came to Toronto in 1997 to study
dance at York University. While there she performed as a member
of the York Dance Ensemble under the direction of Holly Small and
Sara Porter. In 2001 Christa co-founded Homelands Dance Theatre,
a United Kingdom-Canadian Collective, with Claire Sparrow of the
U.K. She also works independently in the Toronto community, as a
teacher and performer. Christa has worked with Kd'D2 since
March 2003, and is always happy to be involved in whatever great
thing Karen and Allen might do next. Tim Spronk
Tim Spronk is a graduate of York University. He has performed throughout
the world as a dancer with many artists such as Newton Moraes, Jackie
Latendress, Nicole Fougere and in competitive ballroom (he is the
2001 North American Champion of Dancesport Theater Arts). Tim performs
regularly as a founding member of the Chimera project, directed
by Malgorzata Nowacka. He also dances with the Kaeja dDance
main company, and works as a personal trainer. Apprentices
Bea Benian As an independant dance artist, Bea has worked with Company Tilt,
Dancetheatre David Earle, Bill James, Janet Johnson, Linda Baker,
Dave Wilson and the Danny Grossman Company (performing David Earle's
Dreamsend). Bea teaches contemporary movement at the University
of Waterloo, The Carousel Dance Centre and the Listowel School of
Dance. Jonathan Lawley Jonathan Lawley started the School of Toronto Dance Theatre in
2001. He won first place at the world dance competition with his
duet in the same year. Jonathan has danced in commercials such as
The Food Network, Levis and Milk. He has done industrial shows including
Inferno at the Ex, the Ski and Snowboard Show and AT&T, and
worked with the modern dance company Motus-O. KdD2
