2004 Tour
In February of 2004, KdD2 embarked on its third annual
Ontario tour, this time to Ottawa and Strathroy. From February 2
to 4, 2004, KdD2 taught workshops and performed Resistance
in Ottawa for informal school matinees at De La Salle Ecole Secondaire,
followed by artist/audience discussions. Kd'D2 then visited
Strathroy, from February 5-7, 2004. In addition to teaching workshops
at Strathroy District Collegiate Institute, KdD2
performed one school matinee and one community performance of Resistance.
Strathroy District Collegiate Institute had never presented contemporary
dance. While De La Salle Ecole Secondaire has a dance program, their
challenge lies in developing interest among their young male students.
Beginning in September 2003, De La Salle opened up their school
to grades 7 and 8. The staff was eager to engage those students
(the boys particularly) in the performing arts, assuring a future
population of students in the dance and drama streams. KdD2
worked with these students specifically to help meet their challenge.
Following the performances in Strathroy, KdD2 returned
home to Toronto, to present five matinee and two evening performances
of Resistance at the Miles
Nadal Jewish Cultural Centre, located at Bloor and Spadina,
and to teach in the public school system in partnership with the
Toronto District School Board.
