Where Kd’D2 Has Been
2002 Tour

In 2001, Kaeja d’Dance created Kd’D2, a project of emerging professional dancers. The first tour was a five-week, four-community tour of Resistance. From April 9, 2002 to May 1, 2002, Allen Kaeja’s full-length work toured to Peterborough, Kitchener, Cobalt and Guelph, Ontario. This tour exposed the dancers to all aspects of touring a professional contemporary dance piece and allowed them to grow into well-rounded independent dance artists.

In total, through performances and teaching, Kaeja d’Dance reached approximately 1,000 people in four small communities.

2003 Tour

In 2003, Kd’D2 toured Northern Ontario for 5 consecutive weeks, visiting 8 communities. The tour took place between April 13 and May 17 2003, and brought us to Thessalon, Sault St. Marie, Marathon, White River, Wawa, Chapleau, Timmins and Sudbury.

Kd'D2 performed 14 times, in 8 communities reaching a total of 3,697 people, most of whom were students.

2004 Tour

In February of 2004, Kd’D2 embarked on its third annual Ontario tour, this time to Ottawa and Strathroy. From February 2 to 4, 2004, Kd’D2 taught workshops and performed Resistance in Ottawa for informal school matinees at De La Salle Ecole Secondaire, followed by artist/audience discussions. Kd'D2 then visited Strathroy, from February 5-7, 2004. In addition to teaching workshops at Strathroy District Collegiate Institute, Kd’D2 performed one school matinee and one community performance of Resistance.

Strathroy District Collegiate Institute had never presented contemporary dance. While De La Salle Ecole Secondaire has a dance program, their challenge lies in developing interest among their young male students. Beginning in September 2003, De La Salle opened up their school to grades 7 and 8. The staff was eager to engage those students (the boys particularly) in the performing arts, assuring a future population of students in the dance and drama streams. Kd’D2 worked with these students specifically to help meet their challenge.

Following the performances in Strathroy, Kd’D2 returned home to Toronto, to present five matinee and two evening performances of Resistance at the Miles Nadal Jewish Cultural Centre, located at Bloor and Spadina, and to teach in the public school system in partnership with the Toronto District School Board.
