ABOUT PORCH VIEW DANCES 2019

2012 Winner Globe & Mail, Best Site Specific Work

Canadian Dance Assembly’s “I Love Dance Community Award”

Kaeja d’Dance returns for its 8th annual Porch View Dances!

Join us for Opening Night to celebrate the newly inaugurated

PORCH VIEW DANCES LANE!

Starbucks will be there and the first 100 audience members get

FREE COFFEE!

Seaton Village once again becomes the stage for participants from all over the city! Join Maurycy as he guides audiences on a tour through the neighbourhood. Along the way, you’ll see dances performed by everyday people (families, friends, and even strangers!) on porches and lawns and vignettes danced by professionals in the most unexpected places. One of our families will grace us for a third year in a row with a special series highlighting their Indigenous roots. The tour will end in a participatory Flock Landing finale, a gentle and inclusive group movement experience.

HOW IT WORKS

The audience will gather at 92 LONDON ST. (right by the new Porch View Dances Lane!) at showtime where they will be greeted by our amazing tour guide, Maurycy, who will take them through the Seaton Village streets, stopping to enjoy dance pieces along the way!

THIS YEAR'S PARTICIPANTS

PORCH 1

Choreographed by Aria Evans

For the third year in a row Jim and Owen Adams, an Indigenous father and son have embarked on a PVD series of what it means to be an Indigenous family in the city. This year they will be creating a piece for Jim to perform about dreams, memory, and loss.

PORCH 2

Choreographed by Shannon Litzenberger

A unique group of friends and strangers unite in their shared love of dance, art, and community. They are looking forward to strengthening existing friendships and making new ones.

PORCH 3

Choreographed by Karen and Allen Kaeja

A mother/daughter duo are looking forward to a magical bonding experience and sharing their dance with the community; while their story is unique, the themes are universal and will resonate with all.

VIGNETTES

In addition, there will be pop-up vignettes choreographed by Mateo Galindo Torres and danced by professionals Caryn Chappell and Mio Sakamoto.
