Porch View Dances 2021: 10th Anniversary

PVD10 was a virtual event that celebrated ten years of "real people dancing in real spaces"!

2021 marked the 10th Anniversary of Porch View Dances. PVD10, led by Curator and Production Director Michael Caldwell (a long-time collaborator with Kaeja d'Dance) featured new commissioned dance films, from choreographers and filmmakers sharing their unique visions of 'home' in the midst of complex and challenging times.

PVD10 took place on Thursday, August 5th in an online event hosted by theatre-maker and actor, Jake Runeckles.

Three distinct choreographer-filmmaker artistic pairings engaged with community participants to create three dance films, celebrating the stories of our friends and neighbours and bridging the gap between professional artists and everyday people.

Interspersed throughout the August 5, 2021 program, three professional dance-makers appeared in short video vignettes, captured in one continuous shot, in outdoor settings across the city of Toronto.

We also celebrated the dedicated group of community participants over the last 10 years in Seaton Village, in our Reminiscent Reel - a fun and uplifting short film featuring past participants recalling memories from their previous PVD experience.

And finally, any PVD experience would not be complete without Flock Landing, a participatory, site-specific activation which invites people of all ages and abilities to join a collective movement ensemble. Led by professional dancers, it embraces simple gestures that viewers can do from the comfort of their own home. The full PVD10 video is closed captioned.
