Porch View Dances 2023

Porch View Dances is Real People Dancing in Real Spaces.

Join us for our 12th Annual Porch View Dances (PVD), as we celebrate the stories of our local neighbourhood by taking dance out of the theatre and into our daily lives. Founded by Karen Kaeja, PVD is a one-of-a-kind community dance event that brings together creators and everyday folk from around Tkaronto, some of whom have never danced before, to create unique performances in Seaton Village, Toronto.

We're delighted to announce the addition of Co-Curator and Artistic Producer Sofi Gudiño and Co-Curator Sid Ryan Eilers to the PVD team this year. They are joining us as part of a special initiative aimed at expanding our PVD communities, perspectives, and artistic repertoire. Sid and Sofi have dedicated their efforts to selecting works that foster connection and significance, with a deliberate focus on amplifying underrepresented voices in dance and voices from past Porch View Dances.

The image of Sofi is In a black and white photo, Sofi Gudiño, a queer Latin person with short curly hair, smiles widely and rests their chin on their hand. They are wearing a fuzzy white sweater and small gold earrings with a ring on their right hand.

The image of Sid is of A white non-binary, middle-aged person with short dark blond hair gazing forward. Wearing a jean button-down long shirt. Their left arm is raised with fingers reaching forward and palm facing down framing their face. Their right arm with fingers reaching forward and palm facing upwards frames the bottom of the photo. They are against a brick wall.

Bringing back the spirit of Porch View Dances in its full 'in-person' glory, this immersive festival showcases a captivating lineup of Racialized and Indigenous creators. Among them, Jim and Owen Adams, an Indigenous father and son team, have been dedicated resident performers at PVD for the past six years. In their upcoming performance, they will explore the concept of relationship, erasure and resilience, through honouring traditional teachings, stories and ceremonies.
