Porch View Dances 2015: Seaton Village

In 2015, PVD returned to Seaton Village for the 4th year in a row. 2015 also marked the 25th Anniversary of Kaeja d’Dance, and in celebration, this year’s festival centered around the theme of love and family. PVD 2015 featured three porch dances created by couple choreographers. Michael Caldwell and Louis Laberge-Côte worked with Diana d’Amelio, Sonia Kho, and Elizabeth Mitchell. Karen and Allen choreographed a porch dance for father-daughter team Greg and Maya, and Ofilio Sinbadinho and Apolonia Velaszquez created a dance with the Endes family.

This year’s vignettes were also all about love, as Karen created a site-specific piece called the Wedding Brigade that took place in Seaton Village streets and laneways. The Wedding Brigade was a community dance project that invited everyday women of all ages to join in a beautifully staged outdoor procession. All the participants were dressed in wedding white. This piece saught to celebrate, explore and re-frame the meaning of the white dress as a symbol of the joys and struggles that come with love and commitment. Each performance concluded with the traditional participatory Flock Landing. Porch View Dances ran from August 19 – 23, 2015.
