Jericho

Jericho was choreographed by Allen Kaeja and premiered at Baerum Kulturhus in Oslo, Norway in February 2011. The North American premiere took place during Kaeja d’Dance’s twentieth anniversary production, 20/20 Vision, presented as a part of Harbourfront Centre’s NextSteps Series at Enwave Theatre in April 2011.

Breaking through the barriers of male/female partnering with Allen’s signature momentum and breathtaking elevations, Jericho explores the architecture of the human spirit in a physical and fluid crossing of borders. Kaeja Elevations are developed by Allen Kaeja, from two decades of refined exploration and collaboration with Karen Kaeja.

  • "Incredibly fast-paced, Jericho is charged and surging with energy that is perilous and volatile. Performed with relentless momentum and its female interpreters truly transcend customary female roles in dance. Their presence are refreshingly resilient, unassailable and unyielding, vehemently delivering every breathtaking movement and elevation."

  • "contact improv gone wild"

    Paula Citron, Globe and Mail

  • "dancers challenge, intimidate, force, crush, lift, push and pull one another throughout the empty space. It was amazing to see the physical strength and agility of the female dancers, as there were clearly no limitations."

    Adelina Fabiano, Mooney on Theatre

  • "carries the trademark stamp of his hyper physical, high impact choreographic style; as much pugilistic contact sport as dance in the conventional sense."
